3 Good Reasons Not To Start a Raw Food Diet

So you want to start a raw food diet? Don't. At least don't look at it as an all raw or nothing dietary change.

Many people who start a raw diet with an all or nothing attitude, end up failing.

1. The truth is cooked food is almost impossible to give up in it's entirety. You will be bogged down with feelings of failure each time you give into cook-foods The straight up truth is that it takes months and even years to perfect excellent tasting recipes. Your mind remembers those mind blowing cooked food experiences and it will not let you get away with feeling satiated with anything less.

2. Raw food cuisine has come far in the dessert category. Meaning that the desserts taste way better than any cooked food desserts ever tasted. So I do believe that with enough practice you can give up cooked food desserts and never miss them again.

3. However if you miss the fluffiness of rice and the tender dense flesh of steamed vegetables like plantains and potatoes, no raw food recipe can provide you with this. I have had pizza from a raw food restaurant called Quintessence that came very close to cooked food pizza. It was almost $20 per slice and the dough wasn't anything like real pizza.

The best way to start this lifestyle is not to start at all. Simply add more smoothies to your diet. Eat more fruits and vegetables and when you get a craving for cooked food, make whole food choices like brown rice, quinoa potatoes and squash. You don't have to give up delicious whole foods to get the results that you're after. Simply eat them when you have a strong craving and get back on track as soon as possible.

The only way to succeed on a raw food diet is to set yourself up for success in the beginning. Don't make your journey harder than what it needs to be.

A whole foods way of eating is way more easier than dehydrating crackers for 24 hours and spending hours in the kitchen. Make raw food easy and doable. All you need to get started are a couple of easy recipe cookbooks. I recommend The Joy of Raw and Vegan Cooking as a great first book option. A blender and food processor will make it easy for you to add more raw foods into your diet.
