Why do people give up on their diets so easily and so quickly? Most people give up on their diet within two weeks and they expect to lose weight?
I believe that they get the 'Urge'.
So it stands to reason that if we can fight off the 'Urge', more people will succeed with their diet plan and lose weight.
So what exactly is this 'Urge' and why is it so powerful that it can force us to give up on our diet so easily?
The 'Urge', are the hunger pangs that most people experience when they are dieting. They are signals from your body telling you that it is time to EAT! Do not ignore these signals, if you are truly in need of food, eat. Eat wisely and nutritionally. But, if you know that you are not physically hungry do not do, 'It'. If you break your diet you are going to gain weight!
If you are not physically hungry, you have a problem. You probably have, 'Emotional Cravings' and you are using food as a cushion, as a way of numbing yourself from what you really need.
What you need to do is be totally honest with yourself and question exactly what you are feeling next time the 'Urge' rears its' ugly head. Is it boredom, loneliness, anxiety, frustration or maybe you are disappointed with something. You need to dig down deep inside yourself and find the answer.
Once you have identified the problem you will be able to face the problem head on and find out how best to cope with it. Otherwise you will go back to comfort eating and that will pile the weight on.
If you cannot pinpoint the problem make sure that you keep busy. This will help you to put it to the back of your mind, out of harm's way until you are ready to admit to what the problem is. Do not let it control you. Do not give in as it will get worse until it is too late.
Another thing that you must do is to keep all foods out of sight. This will also help to keep your mind off eating and will help to keep those 'Urges' at bay. Leave a few apples around and bite on these if the 'Urges' persist and become uncontrollable.
Water, water and more water. Drink as much water as you can this will help to stave off those hunger pains and will also flush any toxins out of your body whilst keeping you well hydrated.
Try and keep away from food. The more food 'In Your Face', the bigger the problem will be the 'Urge' may well be, too strong to fight. So either keep away from parties and other places where people will be eating or make sure that you have already eaten a well thought out meal. This will help you make it. Also explain to people that you have already eaten when they offer you, 'Bait On A Plate'.
These urges come and go so chewing on a piece of gum might help you make your next meal.
